Another recipient of proceeds from this year’s golf tournament will go to the Dick Forbort Fund. The Forborts have a history of hockey talent going back years. Derek Forbort is currently a defenseman for the NHL’s Boston Bruins.
The fund has been providing assistance for athletic programs and recreational opportunities for youth in the Duluth areas and will continue to do so. More recently, however, they recognize that mental health issues experienced by athletes appear to be a growing and/or more recently acknowledged problem. The fund was therefore expanded so grants may be made to organizations that are involved in the alleviation, treatment, prevention, or other work in connection with such illnesses amongst athletes.
